Chronic Low Back Pain

Chronic low back pain – defined as pain lasting more than 12 weeks – affects nearly 20% of adults at any given time and is the leading cause of disability worldwide. Despite this, surgery is appropriate for only a small minority of cases. The majority of chronic low back pain responds well to a structured, progressive conservative care program.

Treatment pathway at EHG

  • Active physical therapy – progressive strengthening, core stabilisation, and mobility work designed specifically for your presentation, not a generic protocol.
  • Chiropractic care – spinal manipulation and mobilisation to reduce joint restriction, nerve irritation, and muscle spasm.
  • Trigger point and joint injections – for patients with specific pain generators that aren’t responding to manual therapy alone.
  • Regenerative medicine – PRP or prolotherapy for patients with ligamentous laxity or disc involvement, to support tissue healing.
  • Medical management – oversight from our family medicine providers to ensure any underlying contributors (inflammation, metabolic factors, medication interactions) are addressed.
  • Posture and movement coaching – structured home exercise programs that extend treatment gains between appointments.

What to expect

Most patients with mechanical low back pain see measurable improvement within 4–8 weeks of beginning a coordinated treatment program. We set clear functional goals – reduced pain scores, improved range of motion, return to specific activities – and reassess at regular intervals. If you are not improving, we tell you, and we adjust the plan.
