About Our Medical Lake Practice

Essential Health Group provides non-surgical hip pain treatment using regenerative medicine, PRP, prolozone therapy, physical therapy, and chiropractic care — all under one roof in Medical Lake, WA.

Hip pain can be severely limiting — affecting your ability to walk, sleep, work, and stay active. Whether it’s osteoarthritis, trochanteric bursitis, hip tendonitis, or sacroiliac joint dysfunction, our integrated team — led by Dr. Christopher Wellwood NP-C, MSN, DC — evaluates the full picture and builds a treatment plan targeting the actual source.

Understanding Hip Pain

The hip is a large ball-and-socket joint that bears the body’s full weight with every step. Hip pain can originate from the joint itself, the surrounding bursae, tendons, ligaments, or the lumbar spine.

Identifying the correct source is critical to effective treatment — which is why our multi-disciplinary evaluation is the foundation of everything we do. Many patients come to us having been treated for one cause when the actual source was something else entirely.

Hip Conditions We Treat

Our Medical Lake practice treats patients across the full range of hip pain presentations including:

  • Hip osteoarthritis — cartilage degeneration in the hip joint causing pain, stiffness, and reduced range of motion
  • Trochanteric bursitis — inflammation of the bursa on the outer hip causing pain with walking and lying on the affected side
  • Hip tendonitis — inflammation of the hip flexor, glute, or IT band tendons from overuse or acute injury
  • Iliotibial band syndrome — outer hip and knee pain from IT band tightness and inflammation
  • Hip labral tears — tears of the hip’s cartilage rim causing deep joint pain and clicking
  • Sacroiliac joint dysfunction — SI joint inflammation causing low back and hip pain
  • Piriformis syndrome — piriformis muscle irritation causing deep hip and buttock pain, often mimicking sciatica
  • Post-surgical hip pain — ongoing pain following hip replacement or arthroscopy

Our Regenerative Approach to Hip Pain

At Essential Health Group, we use regenerative medicine to address the structural causes of hip pain — stimulating the body’s own repair mechanisms rather than masking symptoms with cortisone or pursuing premature surgery. PRP and prolozone therapy have helped many of our hip pain patients achieve lasting relief.

Hip Pain FAQs

Can hip osteoarthritis be treated without surgery?

Many patients with moderate hip osteoarthritis achieve significant and lasting relief with PRP and prolozone therapy. Severe end-stage arthritis may ultimately require joint replacement, but regenerative treatment can delay or reduce the need for surgery in many cases.

What is the difference between hip bursitis and hip osteoarthritis?

Bursitis is inflammation of the fluid-filled sac on the outer hip, causing outer hip pain. Osteoarthritis is cartilage degeneration inside the joint, causing groin pain and stiffness. Both respond well to our regenerative protocols, but the treatment approach differs.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed. Veterans with a VA referral can access our services with full VA coverage. Call (509) 299-6900 or schedule online.

How long does hip pain treatment take?

Most patients begin experiencing improvement within 4–8 weeks of starting a regenerative protocol. Full results typically develop over 3–6 months as tissue repair progresses.

Can you treat hip pain from a fall or injury?

Yes. We treat acute hip injuries including bursitis, tendon tears, and soft tissue injuries from falls, sports, and work accidents.
